Urban Reveal - Bridge to Building

Urban Reveal connects the loft district of Callowhill Philadelphia with Center City Philadelphia. The remaining portion of the elevated Reading Railway makes the area unique and full of history. Urban Reveal strives to uncover this history while maintaining the present values of the Philadelphia culture. Currently, large barriers exist for pedestrians to travel around the area including the Vine Street Expressway. Urban Reveal serves as a pedestrian crossing connecting the Philadelphia Convention Center area with the Reading Viaduct which is currently undergoing changes to mimic the New York Highline.

Urban Reveal will expand on this with its green gathering space, and access to café, railway museum, and office space. Climbing up the ramps to the level of the remaining viaduct, visitors will experience structure and façade, interior and exterior spaces all integrated to create a processional experience. The truss system utilizes tension cables as the bridge’s transforming structure but also the framing for the buildings enclosure, making the bridge and building act seamlessly together. The interior spaces provide an experience of walking through the structure while still providing a functional layout.
